Thank you very much! You really hit the nail on the head there; indeed, the Ion Age is a far future setting with a subtle medieval flair to it. I imagined that while it's a high technological society, it's government is feudal in organization. So you have nobles who have quite a bit of wealth to spend on extravagant decoration such as the medieval inspired chair/throne you see here.
Wow, that sounds very interesting, the two different cultures and times, I think, would make for a really fun negotiation of how they would combine, what traits would remain and what would no long. Is this part of a game or story you are working on?
The Ion Age is a miniature wargame universe owned by Alternative Armies, for whom I'm currently working as lead designer. So as well as sculpting miniatures, I'm also doing artwork for the books and such. This picture was originally created with the boardgame "Firefight" in mind, though the picture really fits anywhere into the Ion Age setting as a whole.
There's big ones (28mm scale) as well, they have yet to be added to the new website, but still available for the moment from www.alternative-armies.com. For me personally, the look of those "space knights" was really what drew me into this thing
That was sort of the idea, although, instead of chess, it was based on the Firefight board game (which is set in the Ion Age as well). so what she has in front of her could be either a game, or a holographic representation of the battlefield out there.
Mmm, great atmosphere to this one. You've got a gift for mixing futuristic armor with fantasy-like elements like the jewels or engraved pauldron. And no one can resist a good holographic chess-ish game.
Happy to hear you like it! One of the dominating visual aspects of the human factions in the Ion age is that they have a certain medieval aesthetic (though they are a high tech civilization) This is even more outspoken in the power armour of the Nobles and Marcher Barons, who'd have it personalized with all sorts of decoration. The Noblesse here was actually somewhat inspired by an existing Ion Age miniature www.alternative-armies.com/IA1…
